I finished Twisted Pawn at two in the morning and just sat there in the dark, phone still glowing, completely wrecked. My chest actually ached. I loved the way their connection feels inevitable. No matter how fast she runs or how hard he pushes, something keeps pulling them back together. It's that slow burn tension mixed with moments so charged they practically crackle off the page. The atmosphere is thick with threat and longing in equal measure.

Here on the Space Coast, when life gets heavy and I need to disappear into a story, books like this are my refuge. They let me feel everything without having to step into the danger myself. I read most of it curled up in my favorite chair with the waves in the distance, and the intensity of the book matched the storm rolling in outside.

The characters that stole my heart

Achilles is the kind of hero who makes you question your own morals. You see the man beneath the monster, the one who once showed his humanity to only one person. Then you watch that get twisted by pain and time. I swooned and cringed and unraveled right along with him.

Tierney is no damsel. She's clever and fast and carries the weight of her choices without breaking. I admired her strength even when it hurt to watch. Their dynamic is classic enemies to lovers but elevated by real emotional stakes. The way they see each other, truly see each other, beneath all the armor, is what makes this story special.

I found myself highlighting dialogue that cut straight through me. Shen has this gift for writing characters who feel painfully real even when their lives are anything but ordinary. By the time I reached the final chapters I was fully invested in their fractured happily ever after.

Fans of intense cat and mouse chases, revenge stories with heart, and passion that borders on obsession will find everything they want here.

It's also perfect for readers who enjoy mafia worlds without needing every detail explained. Shen trusts you to keep up, and the reward is a story that feels both cinematic and deeply personal. If you've loved her other works, this fits right into that addictive style.

You don't have to be a seasoned dark romance reader to enjoy it, but a tolerance for darkness definitely helps. The emotional payoff is worth every uncomfortable moment along the way.
